5 reasons why Arsenal will finish in the top 3

Posted by Martin in Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, Chelsea, Jose Mourinho | 8 December 2006

Well I couldn’t let the Blue Champion have the last say could I? And why 5 reasons and not 10 – well I think 5 says it all!

1 – Arsene Wenger

Wenger is one of the rare breed of managers who I consider to be a gentlemen. Yes he had a small incident the other week when tempers flared, but that shows his passion for the game and the desire to win.

Look how he handled the Ashley Cole transfer at the beginning of the year, no animosity and actively encouraging Ashley to do what was right for him.

In the past 10 years he has achieved some great titles, 4 league and 3 times FA cup winners .

How many games did we go unbeaten? A record that has yet to be broken and possibly never will.

However Wenger’s ability to take the club to the final of the Champions League for the first time in the clubs history a real achievement.

With the loss of key players in the past 2 seasons it takes time to re-build a team. Wenger doesn’t go spending large sums on celebrity players, instead he takes a considered approach and looks to the long term. The sign of a great forward thinking boss!

If given the choice between Wenger & Mourinho, Wenger would get my vote every time!

2. Flowing procession football

The style Arsenal has adopted under Wenger is a joy to watch. I’d call it the “Beautiful game’ and yes when at their best, no team can beat them.

I agree that at times I find myself shouting “Shoot”, but recently we’ve taken far more shots from outside the area and with the likes of Van Persie, Fabregas, Gilberto & Henry we’ll only get better and more of those opportunities will convert into goals.

I do believe I noticed Chelsea adopting some of the flare that Arsenal show. Where did they learn that?

3. We’re difficult to play against

When we pass the ball around with pin-point accuracy, we’re difficult to play against. When we break, which is what I believe I saw happen against Spurs, (or maybe I was just mistaken) then we’re un-stoppable. With Henry up front with his speed and skill, who can beat us. Predictable – I don’t think so!

4. Thierry Henry

Yep he’s got an neck injury at present and so will be out for the odd game, but I do believe he’s the joint top goal scorer at present along with Van Persie and he’s played less games.

Inspirational – when he’s not on the pitch, it’s like we’re missing part of the family and when on it, he not only inspires the team but also the fans.

5. The team are growing in experience

As I’ve said it takes time to re-build a team. The loss of key players like Vieria, Pires, Cole & Bergkamp it makes a difference to a team and you can’t expect to win every game when new players are brought in. But with Rosicky, Baptista and Adebayor - who obviously wasn’t blind when he scored the winner against Man United in September, we have a side that can and will go from strength to strength.

I think that about sums it up.

Let’s see what happens in the match against Chelsea on Sunday!

Yeah, probably they'll finish in top 3, 20 points behind ManU, the eventual champion. And don't get me wrong, I am a Gunner... a realistic one.

Arsenal still need to learn how to play against the 8-1-1 formation most teams play against us. Also with our not so hot defending against the long ball and set piece we will lose at least another 4 times this season.

Mate, Wenger has only won the league 3 times. 2 doubles in 1998 and 2002 and the league in 2004. Arsenal are a good team but we need some more quality players to increase competition.

Agree with some of your points chief and did read the speel from the SW6 chav yesterday and he was talking loud and saying nothing - as James used to say. But I think a lot of his diatribe yesterday was to get noticed and provoke a reaction a lot of people bit - but good for you for making your own points. I'm in agreement with the fella who said we need competition for places and I mean proper competition not the likes of Song and I still believe for all out free flowing beautiful football we need a player who can put their foot in - that and a proper out and out striker - well you can hope!

nice one phil :)
i think we can even catch chelsea for second if we get a win on sunday. Man Utd look unstoppable except against us though but they should win the league easily if they keep this up.

i am yet to see anybody who can tell me he has never had a terrible day in what he does best or rather anyone who started a career and it's been rosy from day one. i take all that is happening to this team as the learning curve and glad it's happening now so that when they no longer carry that tag young side then they have no excuse cos they should have learnt. so lets get behind them and encourage them like you would do a child learning to walk

The only reason why Arsenal has failed to win more games this season most of which they deserved, is because of THIERRY HENRY.

Yes, his quality is unquestionable. His service and loyality to the club has also been wow. But, recently he's a kind of player who wants to enjoy the hardwork of Fabregas, gil, and company without participating.

He gets himself stand in 8legs of oponents without even posing any threat with his pace, trickery and movement.

Currently, Van persie, is a better central, threatening striker than him. But HENRY lets him rot on the left frank where it is possible he can he play 70mins without a shot on goal.

We all know, HENRY is a huge threat with space, and he can only get that running wide on the left then, cut into the box for an assist or dangerous curving shot into the net. He hardly does it.

This could have allowed Van persie move central where he even has a chance to cut in from the right torture the opponents.

Henry is also recently very wasteful infront goal. His teammates, whom he captains, work hard, move the ball from defense, across the midfield then to him. Only for him to start experimenting his trickeries, instead of shooting.

He's leading a young side whose pressing need is his goals at the moment. He lacks the conviction of that.

Its time to score those ugly goals. It can only start with him and others follow. They're afraid of his irritating gestures.

Yet when they don't give him the ball, anf it so happens that they don't score, he looks in a manner he shouldn't.

He's partly responsible for Reyes/s departure. He wants himself to run the show alone. It has costed us dear this season.

Whoever thinks he's really nursing an injury, should think again.

Wenger, has been very patient, observed him, and saw what i have seen. He's only being benched like it was the case with JENS.

Wenger gon on and bench whoever, thinks he's too important to the club, to give it his best b'se he has done so in the past.

I have never like Gilberto, but his commitment, inspite of his passing flaws, is hwat makes him one of my favourites at the moment.

On the pitch you feel he deserves the captain's armband.

One thing that annoys me is everyone at Arsenal, manager and players alike, has talked about the "bright" future ahead for the last few years. Well, today is 2004's future. Isn't it time for the team to truly fulfill its true potential?

look im not being funny yes arsenal will finish in the top 3 because the other sides arent any good, chelsea will win the league n are still the team to beat. i wish it wernt true as id rather utd win than chelsea, but they lack more depth than us and u 4get scholes 32 giggs 34 they going to last all season??? dont think so plus u got one striker saha hoose average even on his day theyre team consists of a good organised defence n rooney n ronaldo without them theyd be struggling for 4th spot. arsenal have a great young side n only need to keep our players fit n purchase a central midfielder to compete for a place alongside the immense fabregas and gilberto. then will start challenging chelsea. sing with me gooners one man went to bed went to bed with cashley....................... one man and his mobile phone went to bed with cashley. singing we swapped a willy for a cunt, we swapped a willy we swapped a willy we swapped a willy for a cunt!!
