Does your child go to an Eco-School?

Eco Schools is an international scheme to encourage schools to become sustainable. 40,000 schools worldwide are part of the scheme and follow a seven step programme to reduce their enviromental impact.

In the UK 40% of schools are now registered as Eco-Schools and you can use the search tool on their website to check if your child's school is taking part. Unfortunately our local school doesn't appear to have even registered let alone be moving up the award list so that's something for me to work on.

There are three levels of award. Bronze and silver are self-assessed but the highest accolade - green flag status - is only achieved through written submission and a visit by an assessor.

This scheme looks to provide a good structure for raising environmental awareness in schools and getting the children involved from a young age.
