Energy from rain - the power of the future!

Power from rain is certainly something that we could make use of here in good old Great Britain, particularly with the extremes in weather conditions we've been experiencing recently.
According to Discovery News, research and development engineer Romain Guigon has been able to demonstrate that by bombarding a sheet of polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) with drops of water, the vibrations that occur are enough to generate small amounts of power.
O.k, so it doesn't produce as much as the sun, but as Guigon points out "It's just a system that can be used where solar energy is difficult to exploit and/or combined with another technology for harvesting energy".

But definitely one to watch!
