A mixed 2007 for my green resolutions
Posted by DavidM in | 24 January 2008
In January last year I posted my green New Year's resolutions. Looking back, I had mixed results with them.
1. Driving less stridently to improve fuel efficiency.
Unfortunately my fuel consumption is worsening. My car is struggling and I'm having to use the accelerator more just to maintain speed. So although I'm more relaxed in my driving style I'm burning more biodiesel in my travels.
2a. Solar power at home.
Completely failed on this one though I'll look into it properly this year.
2b. Moving to a green electricity supplier
Success! We now use a green tariff where they buy hydro-electric power to match our usage. However our electricity bill has gone up and is causing me grief with my wife.
3. Champion environmental change at work.
Sorry, failed on this one too. I do have conversations with colleagues about things they can do but I'm not involved in making the company more environmental.
Overall I haven't made great strides in making the family greener in the last year.
Having said that, we have continued with the changes we made previously. We use almost all low-energy light bulbs around the house, only rechargeable batteries, run my car on biodiesel, turn off all stand-by items and keep our heating at a low level.
I'd like to make at least one significant change in 2008 so will have a think and post my resolutions for this year soon.
