Green Christmas gifts 2007

Posted by DavidM in Buying green | 11 December 2007

This is an update on the article I wrote about environmental Christmas presents last year.

Many of those gifts are still available and relevant, such as adopting an animal and ordering trees by post.

There are also a host of new things to buy for an environmentally-minded loved-one. I wrote about the Tefal Quick Cup kettle last week, which reduces the energy used to boil water by up to 65%.

For the gadget freak, how about a green alternative to the iTouch? The Eco Media Player can play your music and videos as well as pick up FM radio, charge your phone and light your way home. All from either battery power or a Trevor Baylis designed wind-up mechanism.

A great energy saver is the Bye Bye Standby energy-saving kit which makes it simple to turn off all those electrical items left on standby.

For the keen gardener there is the Paper Potter to make biodegradable plant pots for seedlings from old newspaper.

For children over 12, how about the Horizon H-racer hydrogen fuel-cell toy car? It's a cool toy demonstrating a future transport technology.

Or how about using your gift to protect diverse ecologies? For £50 you can save an acre of rainforest with the World Land Trust.

For more ideas have a look at these articles from About.com, Planet Friendly and Find that gift for him.
