Turning back to the milkman

This week we started getting milk from the milkman - the first time in my adult life.

Aside from feelings of nostalgia for my wife and I there are big benefits in this.

First, instead of putting three large plastic cartons in the recycling every week, we put half a dozen glass milk bottles on the doorstep ready for reuse in future delveries.

Second, as they deliver three days a week, we no longer have to make the occasional car trip to the shop to replenish our milk between main food shopping trips.

The nice part is that this wasn't even my idea - my wife decided it would be good to try it out. Despite nearly dropping two of the bottles so far and the cost being slightly higher, it looks like we'll stay with it.

Unfortunately Dairy Crest have moved away from the electric milk floats nowadays. It would be great if they were running the fleet on biodiesel but their site doesn't say anything about a transport policy though they do show how the company's overall environmental impact is reducing.

Why not go on and see if they can deliver in your area?
