Green websites: Environmentology from Honda

computer_658399.jpgI was quite excited when I saw an ad for Honda's Environmentology pages as I browsed through green blogs the other day.

Honda have been one of the pioneers of hybrid car technology and I expected big things of the site. More detail not just about their cars but about how Honda is embracing environmental concerns throughout their business, how they can help consumers do the same and some real insights.

But no. It's just a standard marketing site with flash graphics and little content. It's effectively a short history of Honda's hybrid and fuel efficient cars and trucks with a few examples along the way.

No real insight, no detail on whether Honda are becoming a carbon neutral company.

The other thing I find disappointing is that it focuses on hybrids (good for town but not so hot for long journeys), fuel cell cars (good but who wants to buy a home charger kit) and low emissions vehicles (good), but makes absolutley no mention of biodiesel.

As you may know I'm a fan of biodiesel - so long as it comes from waste or low impact agriculture - and compared to the Honda solutions is far superior.

It goes in normal diesel cars - you don't have to spend extra on a hybrid or make any conversions.

It's available now, though from limited outlets, which is where Honda could have helped.

You don't have to charge it from the electricity grid.

The Environmentology website is a good idea from Honda but has been badly executed. The content is too thin and conveys nothing of Honda's own efforts. Another example of a company spending more time on making a site pretty rather than useful.
