Not a very green Christmas

I can't say there was much about our Christmas that was less environmentally damaging than usual. I failed to negotiate an organic (even free-range) turkey against the stupidly low price of the bog-standard supermarket offering.

Once the children had unwrapped their presents we were left with a small mountain of packaging - most of which was unrecyclable.

And because my new diesel car is having rather a lot of electrical problems (no windscreen wipers or headlights as we discovered on the way home on dark rainy night) we have been using the less efficient petrol car to get around.

However, it was a slightly greener Christmas in a couple of ways. First, because of changes I had already made, we bathed in the glow of low-energy light bulbs and the kids toys were powered mostly by rechargable batteries.

Second, I got a couple of the greener items on my Christmas present wish-list. The energy meter is useful and I'll write up a separate post about the fun I've been having with that.

The other really useful item (though it doesn't sound very exciting) is the battery charge tester. So now when I recharge batteries using my solar charger, I can check when they are fully charged.

Christmas is over now and it's time to think of New Year's resolutions. I'll have a mull and post them up in the next week or so.

Happy New Year.
