I love Freecycle

I wrote about Freecycle when I first discovered it a couple of months ago.
Recently I've had a chance to use it and I've found it works really well.
My first thought was that people would only give away junk. After all, why would people put stuff up for free when they can ebay it? How wrong I was. Recent items offered at my local Freecycle have included sofas and other furniture, computers, monitors and accessories, lots of kids toys, baby stuff from clothes to car seats to cots, books, bikes, musical instruments and even tickets for a concert!
We cleared out our garage and got rid of a lot of stuff at car boot sales and on ebay but still had some bulky items so I put them up on Freecycle. Our big red ladybird sandpit went last week and someone should be coming to pick up the children's old car seats tonight. All of these would normally have gone to the dump and it's nice to know that not only have I reduced landfill space but also helped someone else out.
I also got hold of an upright piano. I'd like the kids to learn to play but don't want to splash out loads of money in case they don't stick with it. So a free piano from a local Southampton pub was just the ticket. Of course I had to pick it up which gave my neighbours and I a fun afternoon.
If you haven't signed up for Freecycle yet, go on the site, find your local club and register. It costs nothing and you'll be amazed at what people are giving away.
