Green tip #3: Shop local

green_tips.jpgSupermarkets dominate the grocery market and many people think of them as convenient and cheap.

But that’s not always the case. You may find some foods cheaper locally and could be sacrificing quality.

When you have a spare hour, go and have a look at your local shops. Within 5 miles of where I live there is a Sainsbury’s and Tesco. But only 2 miles away is a small shopping precinct with a good quality butchers, greengrocers, newsagents and pharmacists.

Parking is reasonably easy, there aren’t crushes of people in the aisles or long queues at the checkout and often the shop staff are friendly and chatty.

It’s a nicer shopping experience than the big supermarkets and often better quality for the same price. We've been buying chicken from the local butcher and recently tried a cheap one from Tesco. The taste was bland and the meat poor compared to the butchers' bird.
