Environmental Christmas presents

Posted by DavidM in Buying green | 17 November 2006

There are an ever growing range of presents for the environmentalist online these days and below is a selection I have come across.

Why not adopt an endangered animal from the Worldwide Fund for Nature. The animals 'adopted' live in the wild and are part of one of WWF's projects. You can adopt one for as little as £2.50 a month. This will get you a certificate, a print of your animal, facts about the species, a greetings card, tips on a 'greener' lifestyle, WWF screensavers, and a soft toy as well as quarterly updates.

Or send someone a tree so their garden absorbs more CO2? Tree Gifts can send a tree anywhere in the UK and prices start from just £14 for a Beech tree. If you do this, it's worth checking the tree is appropriate for the area your friend or relative lives in.

For a range of gifts try the online shops such as Ecotopia, The Green Shop and Nigel's Eco Store.

I few of the things I liked were;

The Solar Cool Cap for sheer naffness.
A mud clock that my son would like (from The Green Shop).
A face/eye pad for the lady in your life to remove her make-up without using chemicals.
A bamboo monitor, keyboard and mouse for the geek you love.

There are also plenty of green books you can buy covering a range of topics. From building environmentally friendly housing to making the most of your garden without using chemicals and hints and tips for greener living (though you could save your money and send people a link to this website instead!).

Finally, how about an environment-themed cartoon to give a serious message to your friends and relatives in a humurous way.
