Toxic technology

Although the growth in electronic communications, online shopping and so on can have beneficial environmental effects, one of the big drawbacks is the toxicity of computer equipment.
Greenpeace yesterday published results of a study of the toxic materials in laptops from five major brands. The Apple Macbook came out the worst with high levels of a toxic flame retardant and HP fared little better.
While Greenpeace state that no computer manufacturer is a shining example, the two organisations leading their toxic technology report card are Nokia and Dell. HP had been third but slipped to fifth in the light of the laptop study.
So for mobiles, Nokia good - Motorola bad.
For computers, Dell good - Acer bad.
