Big Barn - local producers in the UK

hay_585694.jpgThere aren't an abundance of good UK-based websites helping you make the most of local farmers and producers so I was pleased to come across BigBarn.

The idea is simple. You register and tell others to register, all giving your postcode. Big Barn then tell farmers in your area that there are a bunch of people who want to buy locally made produce in that area and gets them to sign up and make it easier for you to buy direct.

I checked out my area and there are a good number of quality butchers, farm shops, vineyards and restaurants using local ingredients within my 15 mile radius. I know of some farm shops that weren't on there so I'll prompt the farmers.

The site depends on registrations which makes it push the registration piece a bit hard - I nearly didn't notice that I could view my map without registering first. Otherwise, it looks a valuable resource.
