Big Green Gathering on now

I've never been much of one for big outdoor festivals -paying £50 a day to stand half a mile from the stage, sleep in a muddy field and eat over-priced fast food.

But I quite like the idea of the Big Green Gathering. I'm missing it this year but from the BBC review it sounds perfect if you fancy all the festival benefits without the crass commercialisation.

It doesn't quite boast the line-up of Glastonbury or the other myriad music events, but everything is powered by renewable energy - from transport to the site to the stage lighting itself - it's billed as a family event and it's only £20 a day for adults.

In addition to enjoying the music and cabaret I could learn more about renewables and get more tips for living a greener life - which I could then pass on!

I'll put it in the diary and go next year, though it will take a lot of persuading to get the wife there.

Best not turn up to the festival in a red Audi TT ! You might come away from the festival with it painted a different colour. GREEN !
