Al Gore - green hero or vain villain?

Al Gore has been on the receiving end of both good and bad press recently, especially in blogs.
On the one hand there is scepticism that he really is a green evangalist and some believe he is merely jumpng on yet another bandwagon.
On the other, supporters believe he is making strong arguments and there is a co-ordinated smear campaign funded by oil and Republican groups to erode his message.
Either way, Al Gore has raised the profile of climate change and is causing a debate to happen. In a nation where the President is ignoring an increasing barrage of scientific data on the environmental damage being done, that is the most important thing.
