Be alert, when using Google Alerts!

Google AlertsNot so long ago, I mentioned that I’d come across Google Alerts, and how I’d found them great for identifying new blogs. Well this is still true. However, what I hadn’t appreciated, is that on occasions you can get alerted to old news.

Not realising this and not paying attention to the published date, I swiftly forwarded to my boss, an out of date article referring to a service I support in my day job. The article was less than complimentary.

No sooner had I realised my mistake, I quickly hit the recall message button, hoping I could avoid the embarrassment. Alas, I was too late. I received a very brief, but to the point reply.

So, note to self - when using Google Alerts, look at the date of the article before forwarding it to senior managers!
