Getting our visitors to read more
Posted by Martin in For Writers | 13 September 2006
In a recent post for writers, I explained how multiple categories could be assigned to a single post. This makes it easier for our visitors find posts that are relevant to the topic or team they are interested in.
To follow on from that it would be great if we linked to the same categories from within the post, where appropriate.
The idea behind this is to increase the number of posts a visitor reads on a single visit. By adding links from within posts to our categories, should encourage our visitors to look at other posts that they may have missed.
From posts I have written recently I have done exactly this and generally the number of posts read per visit has increased.
To see an example of where I have used this technique, look at the post titled Should Arsenal now be worried by Gallas.
In it you will notice that I linked to the categories for both Wenger and Chelsea, which I have just demonstrated again in this sentence.
I would therefore encourage you to do the same.
If you're not sure how to do this follow the steps below :
a) navigate to the football blog
b) click on the category you want link to
c) copy the url (found in your browser address bar)
d) Highlight the text on your post that you want to turn into a link
e) click on the icon that looks like a chain-link & paste the url
I hope that makes sense, if not you know how to contact me!
