Who joins Sunderland in the fizzy pop division?

I've already decided who'll get 4th spot, but who's going down with Sunderland?

There are 3 teams in it:

  • West Brom - 31 games, 27 points
  • Birmingham - 30 games, 24 points
  • Portsmouth - 30 games, 24 points

Looking at the remaining fixture list I reckon the following:

West Brom
0 wins
4 draws (Aston Villa, Newcastle, West Ham, Everton)
3 losses (Liverpool, Arsenal, Bolton)
Total from remaining games: 4 points

Birmingham
0 wins
3 draws (Wigan, Aston Villa, Everton)
5 losses (Chelsea, Bolton, Blackburn, Newcastle, Bolton)
Total from remaining games: 3 points

Portsmouth
1 win (Sunderland)
4 draws (Fulham, Middlesborough, Charlton, Wigan)
3 losses (Blackburn, Liverpool, Arsenal)
Total from remaining games: 7 points

So the bottom of the table will look like:

  • West Brom 31 points
  • Portsmouth 31 points
  • Birmingham 27 points
  • Sunderland 10 points

It will come down to goal difference. West Brom are currently on -19 and Portsmouth on -27. I'm predicting the same number of defeats and draws so the only difference is the one win for Portsmouth. Therefore I reckon it will be West Brom staying up.

So congratulations on skin-of-the-teeth survival again to Robbo - next year he's being more ambitious and aiming for 5th from bottom!

Good luck in the fizzy pop Championship to Steve Bruce and Harry Redknapp. Harry of course will have taken down the two big South coast rivals one season apart. Maybe it's time for him to move up north.

Cheers

David
