Real Life News - Weekly round up

Posted by Martin in Football blogs | 20 February 2006

Since our launch over a week ago (seems like a lot longer), our bloggers on RLN have covered numerous games and footie issues. So I thought it worth highlighting a few posts written by our overseas bloggers.

Jasper Reed from "down under" responded to a comment asking how Dwight Yorke has been doing, since his move away from the premiership. From what Jasper tells us he's playing well and having a huge impact on A-League football. See what Jasper has to say on "The Grand Old Duke of Yorke".

With the World Cup looming our man in Germany responded to David's post on questions put to the FA, confirming that goal-line technology and video replays will not be used in the World Cup. No surprises there! Pete went on to tell us what the German teams have been up to in Europe over the past week.

Daryl in the US, explains how 16 year old Johnny Exantus is about make history in the MLS, which could see the transfer rules being re-written. Despite having gone through the New York Metrostars youth team, and the New York Metrostars having invested time and money on Johnny, he could end up playing for another team because of the MLS draft (or is that daft?) system. Read the "Ex Factor" to find out more.

Thanks.

Martin

Sporting Assault.
Watching highlights of the Chealsea match this weekend got me thinking that footballers have been dodging the responsibility of their actions for too long.
A player shown a card by the Ref for an illegal/dangerous tackle resulting in injury should be made to pay to the injured party from £5000 to £50,000 for a yellow and from £10,000 to £100,000 for a red ( depending on the value of the player injured).
No insurance cover or repayment by the Club should be allowed - we might then have a cleaner sharper game to watch.

Interesting idea Chris. It sounds like a financial version of the idea of the player committing the foul being removed from the pitch if the other player has to go off injured.
