Arsenal to take 4th spot despite Man Utd defeat

Posted by DavidM in Football blogs | 11 April 2006

Some surprising results over the last few days haven't changed the likely outcome of the Premiership 4th spot battle.

My previous predictions for finishing places are still holding broadly true. The loss by Arsenal to Man Utd was predicted so my view of their final points total stays the same at 69. Spurs were expected to beat Man City so they are still on course for 64 points and to finish 5th.

However, Blackburn only drew against Portsmouth so dropped points and Bolton lost to Liverpool as predicted, but then had a shock loss to Birmingham which has virtually ended their hopes of 4th place. The expected final points are:

  • Arsenal 69
  • Spurs 64
  • Blackburn 60
  • Bolton 59

The games over this week and the weekend are predicted to end as follows:

  • Portsmouth vs Arsenal: Arsenal win
  • Bolton vs Chelsea: Chelsea win
  • Arsenal vs West Brom: Arsenal win
  • Everton vs Tottenham: Draw
  • Blackburn vs Liverpool: Liverpool win

Spurs really need to turn Arsenal over in the North London derby to have a chance of taking fourth spot.

Cheers

David
